Measurement of Noise and Vibration at Work
Every day, workers throughout the world are exposed to significant levels of noise and vibration that can be harmful and lead to permanent health damage. Vibremo provide noise and vibration measurement services to assess the working environment and recommend measures to minimise risk to worker health and safety. We are proud to help employers create safer and more eco-friendly working environments.
Controlling vibration at work
Exposure to whole-body vibration (WBV), particularly to large shocks and jolts, is a health risk for employees working in areas affected by vibration. The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 (the Vibration Regulations) requires employers to control the health risks to their employees from exposure to WBV. It defines daily exposure threshold values; an action value above which corrective measures must be taken to reduce exposure and a limit value not to be exceeded.
Vibremo engineers have experience measuring the amount of vibration employees are exposed to according to BS ISO 2631, and providing solutions to mitigate the risks caused by excessive vibration.
Whole-body vibration occurs when a person’s body is supported on a vibrating surface. Workers may experience this when; standing on a factory floor near stamping machinery such as presses or forges, operating vibrating machinery, or sitting while operating a moving vehicle.
When it comes to factory floor vibration, Vibremo has experience assessing the impact of relocating machinery to different sections of a plant, or placing machinery in a newly built site, on the health and safety of workers and potential sensitive machinery positioned nearby. More detail on how to mitigate risks caused by excessive vibration using vibration isolation systems can be found here.
Controlling noise at work
Workers can often be exposed to noise levels at work that may cause permanent hearing damage. The control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 (the Noise Regulations) requires employers to control the health risks to their employees from exposure to excessive levels of noise. It defines daily or weekly exposure action and limit values. Personal noise exposure represents a noise ‘dose’, which is a combination of how loud noise is and how long a person is exposed to it in a working day (or week).
Vibremo can evaluate your acoustic environment and quantify the noise levels experienced by workers, as well as provide solutions to noise issues.
